This taxon differs from P. saxifraga L. s. str. (Apicacea) mainly through
the basal leaves that are dissected with very narrow segments. In Finland, P.
hircina is less frequent than P. saxifraga and its distribution is
restricted to the southern parts of the country. The former species may be
indigenous and favour more basic habitats; the plant in the image grew (together
with P. saxifraga) on limestone outcrop.
The existence of P. hircina is mostly ignored in
Finland or the plant is regarded as a variety or form of P. saxifraga.
